One of the reasons we selected 1955 for our initial season was because of the Brooklyn Dodgers magical season culminating in their first and only World Series victory.

The Dodgers were well represented on our first chamipon as Gil Hodges, Duke Snider, Carl Furillo and Jim Gilliam were regulars on the James Dean Divisional winning Inland Empire 66ers.  Snider's 49 homers were second to League MVP Willie Mays' 53.  Gilliam led the league in triples while Del Ennis and Carl Furillo formed a formidable outfield with Snider.

Sioux Falls' Willie Mays, however, was the star of the league and easily won the MVP award as he led the Canaries to the title in the Elvis Presley Division and the best record in the league.  Al Kaline won the batting title, Don Newcombe the Cy Young Award and Jim Konstanty and Hershell Freeman tied in the Fireman of the Year voting.
