What we do
As I mentioned on the opening page of this site, we all find enjoyment in recreating our baseball experience through the baseball simulation produced by the APBA Game Company.
A company that was formed in 1951, it was an enhancement of a game called The National Pastime that was released in the 1930s but was unsuccessful. A player of that game, J. Richard Seitz, carried the game with him into adulthood and steadily added aspects to the game to enhance its playability and accuracy. Seitz has passed on and the game has gone through several iterations since he sold it and it is currently produced in both a computer and table top version. If you are interested in learning more about the company and its products follow this LINK.
As for our group, we started play with the 1955 season and the drop down menu under "Seasons Played" will lead you to a league summary for each season completed as well as the post season for that year. We drafted twelve teams from the players of the 1955 season and retain ownership rights to twenty players from year to year. The remainder re-enter a draft pool along with players new to the league from that season and we re-draft twelve more players for each team to form the team for that season's play.
Using the League Management software within the game we share lineups, pitching rotations and designate a specific computer manager to guide our team through five play sessions of roughly 30 games. At the conlcusion of each session we update our data files and reissue instructions and files to continue on. At the conclusion of the final session, four teams advance to a post season tournament to determine a league champion for that year.
