Regular Season

1956 Baseball Season

The Highland Flyers won the second season of the 3RBL with a combination of slugging and pitching as they posted the best overall record in the league.

They led the league in home runs (213) behind the trio of Jackie Jensen (39), Vic Wertz (37) and Gus Triandos (34) and the league in runs per game (5.3).  Frank Lary (22-10), Bob Lemon (19-10) and Curt Simmons (15-5) were the staff aces with Sal Maglie (13-8) and Dick Donovan (13-10) completing the rotation which posted the best ERA in the league.

Meadville was the second best in team scoring and ERA as they were led by their two stalwarts Ted Williams (.320-31-106) and Warren Spahn (23-7 2.17).

Crimson boasted the league MVP in Joe Adcock (.352-43-93) and Wally Post (.278-39-103) who led the attack while Cy Young Award winner Whitey Ford (22-3 1.83) and Ron Kline 21-10 3.50) were their aces.

Wildcard Philadelphia's offense was focused around Mickey Mantle (.321-45-117) and their pitching around Frank Sullivan (23-6 3.12) and they pushed Highland to the limit in the semi-finals before losing in the most disheartening way.
